Writers’ House Villa Kivi in Helsinki launches international writers’ residence

Villa Kivi Writers’ House in Helsinki, Finland begins a residence for writers, starting from 1st October, 2024.

Selection for the longer-term residence rooms Aleksis and Eino requires a work plan for the residency period. The rooms are named after Finnish national writer Aleksis Kivi (as is the entire building complex) and Eino Leino, most beloved Finnish poet. Short-term accommodation for visiting writers will also continue in the third room, named Edith after poet Edith Södergran. Professional foreign and Finnish writers living outside Uusimaa and other members of the literary community are eligible to apply for residency and accommodation. There is a continuous call for applications.

“Working on literary projects away from the hassles and duties of everyday life is an important part of the creative writing process. Helsinki has not previously had such a dedicated facility for writers, authors and other members of the literary community. We hope that both Finnish and international writers will find Villa Kivi opportunity and also network with local writers and the reading public during their residencies,” says writer Markus Leikola, Chairman of Villa Kivi Foundation.
